Technology alone is not enough—it’s technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the results that make our heart sing. - Steve Jobs, Co-founder, Apple
Last year, I shifted my focus to expanding my role from solely a software developer or UI/UX designer to becoming a holistic problem solver. I’ve discovered that the most fulfilling aspects of my work don't stem from the specific tools I use, whether coding languages or design software. Rather, they come from those moments when I bridge the gaps between seemingly disparate domains to creatively solve problems for our customers.
Throughout the year, I've worked closely with our PMs and UI/UX designers to truly understand what our users need and ensure that these needs are central to every feature we develop. I've been heavily involved in creating prototypes and mockups using Figma, which has kept our team aligned, clarified our objectives, and ensured that our solution address our users' needs.
My background in both design and development has been valuable in turning these ideas into well-crafted, user-focused features that not only function smoothly but also provide a superior user experience. I've actively coded features, written tests, and conducted exploratory sessions to identify any gaps, ensuring the highest quality in our deliverables. Post-launch, I've participated in gathering and analyzing feedback, monitoring feature performance using Heap, listening to customer feedback on Gong, and sometimes directly talking to our customers. This comprehensive feedback loop has allowed us to continually refine our features and maintain our commitment to Agile principles. To further promote feature adoption, I’ve crafted social media posts, designed merchandise, and shared updates online.
Over time, I've learned that true innovation sparks at the intersection of disciplines. By working cross-functionally, we not only deepen our understanding of the problems but also come up with creative solutions that exceed expectations. Each project teaches us about adaptability, empathy, and the power of teamwork. Whether we're talking about aesthetics, sketching out a design, or coding algorithms, our ultimate goal remains the same: to deliver solutions that truly make a difference to our users.
Northstar is an essential network map troubleshooting tool that illustrates the network path from a node to the Internet while displaying vital health and performance metrics for each hop. It is accessible at every site. Auvik customers can find the Northstar icon in the upper-left corner of the topology map, just below the Search bar.
